Preventing the Attack
- Create layers of security that make it difficult to implement some of the more obvious attack scenarios such as a parked vehicle next to the building
- Making the location appear to be of low value or difficult to carry out an attack
Delaying the Attack
- Creating a Buffer Zone around the building.
- Properly designed landscape or architectural features can delay it’s execution by making it more difficult for the attacker to reach the intended target.
“The biggest structural engineering lesson learned from the Oklahoma City Bombing was the need to improve the structure’s ability to sustain significant local damage and remain standing.” Tod Rittenhouse, Principal, Weidlinger Associates (Civil Engineering, October 1995)
